Common Questions About Vaccines

Vaccination begins at birth with BCG, Hepatitis B, and OPV-0. The first major batch of vaccines is given at 6 weeks. Dr. Tivender follows the IAP immunization schedule and will provide a complete printed timeline for your baby at the first consultation.

Yes, vaccines are thoroughly tested and safe. Mild side effects like soreness at the injection site, low-grade fever, or fussiness for 1–2 days are normal and indicate the immune system is responding. Serious adverse events are extremely rare — far rarer than the diseases vaccines prevent.

Absolutely. Dr. Tivender offers catch-up immunization consultations where he reviews your child's vaccination history and creates a customized catch-up schedule. It's never too late to protect your child — partial immunization is always better than none.

Yes. Immunity from childhood vaccines wanes over time. Adults should get Td boosters every 10 years, annual flu shots, Hepatitis B if not previously vaccinated, and COVID-19 boosters. Travel vaccines are additional. Dr. Tivender provides adult immunization reviews at every consultation.

Ideally 4–6 weeks before travel, as some vaccines require multiple doses spaced weeks apart, and protection builds over days. For emergency pre-travel vaccination, visit us immediately — some single-dose vaccines can still help even at short notice.

Minor illnesses like a mild cold without fever are generally not a reason to delay vaccination. However, a fever above 38°C is usually a reason to reschedule. Dr. Tivender will assess your child on the day and make a safe clinical decision.
